Do Men Need Facials? It’s About Time You Tried One
You don’t have to be the spa-going type to enjoy a good facial every now and then. Facials aren’t just for pampering—they’re also seriously effective. And let’s be honest, male skin can use some extra TLC. Between thicker skin, oilier pores, and regular shaving, a deep cleanse, proper hydration, and a few strategic extractions can go a long way.
Ask any aesthetician and they’ll tell you: men are slow to adopt facials into their routine. But once they do? They stick with it. Because once you see the difference in your skin (and feel it), facials become something you actually look forward to.
At The Lads Room, we’re here to change the way men think about skincare. We see facials as maintenance. Like going to the dental hygienist or whitening your teeth before a big event, facials give your face that fresh, extra-clean, plump look you can’t get from a bottle.
Not sure where to start? This guide covers everything you need to know—from what to expect, to how often to book, to which facial works best for your skin goals.
Let’s get into it.
Why Men’s Skin Needs a Different Kind of Care
So what’s with this whole men’s facial trend? Is it just another marketing angle—or does male skin need specific care?
Men’s skin actually does come with its own set of challenges, so a one-size-fits-all approach won’t cut it.
How Men’s Skin Works (and Why It Needs Extra Care)
- Thicker skin. Men’s skin has more collagen, which helps it stay firm and age slower. But that extra thickness can trap oil and grime more easily, leading to clogged pores and rough texture.
- More oil. Thanks to testosterone, male skin produces more oil. It’s great for keeping skin hydrated—but also means you’re more likely to deal with shine, breakouts, and blocked pores if you’re not cleaning it properly.
- Larger pores. Bigger pores are common, especially around the nose and forehead. That means dirt and oil have more room to settle in, making regular deep cleansing a must.
- Different daily stress. Shaving, sweat, outdoor exposure, and gym life all take a toll—leading to irritation, bumps, and that dull, worn-out look if you’re not taking care of it.
That’s exactly where facials come in. A proper treatment can clear out buildup, smooth rough patches, calm inflammation, and hydrate skin that’s been stripped by weather, sweat, or harsh cleansers. And unlike guessing your way through products at the drugstore, a facial puts your skin in the hands of a pro who actually knows what it needs.

What to Expect During a Men’s Facial
Never had a facial? It’s not some secret ritual. Here’s what really happens—and why it works.
At The Lads Room, every treatment is tailored to your skin, but the overall structure is simple: assess the skin, clean it properly, treat what needs attention, and seal it all in.
Skin check:
It starts with a quick chat. We’ll ask what’s been going on with your skin lately—dry spots, breakouts, irritation—and what you’re hoping to get out of the facial. Then we take a closer look via magnifying glass to figure out what your skin type is and what it actually needs.
Cleanse:
Your esthetician will start with a double cleanse. The first sweep clears surface oil, dirt and impurities; the second goes deeper to prep your skin for treatment.
Exfoliate:
Dead skin is cleared off with either a scrub, enzymes, or an acid blend—whatever suits your skin best. This smooths things out and helps the rest of the treatment sink in properly.
Steam:
A few minutes under warm steam helps soften oil and open your pores. This sets the stage for a deeper clean without added irritation. Not to mention it feels so good.
Extractions:
If you’ve got blackheads or blocked pores, we clear them out gently using the right tools. Done right, this step can seriously improve your skin’s texture.
Massage (optional):
Some facials include a quick face or neck massage. It boosts circulation and helps with product absorption.
Mask:
We apply a treatment mask based on what your skin needs—hydration, calm, deep cleaning, or a boost in brightness. You chill while the mask does its thing.
Treatment products:
After the mask, we layer on targeted products—toners, serums, or actives—designed to give your skin exactly what it needs.
Moisturizer + SPF:
Last step is locking in hydration and adding protection. You’ll leave with skin that feels clean, balanced, and ready for whatever’s next.

Signature Facials at The Lads Room
At The Lads Room, we don’t expect you to know which facial you need—that’s our job. You show up with a goal (clearer skin, fewer breakouts, less irritation, better texture), and we make it happen.
Each of our facials is built to solve a specific problem and deliver real results. You won’t need numbing cream or hide out for a week. And if you want lasting change, think of integrating these facials into your regular skincare routine. Here’s the lineup:
The Lads Maskne Facial
For: Breakouts from sweat, grime, or masks
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: $169
If your skin feels greasy, congested, or irritated—especially around the beard line, jaw, or under a mask—this is where you start. This treatment clears blocked pores and calms inflammation before things get worse.
You’ll get a deep cleanse, skin polish (exfoliation), steam to open things up, thorough extractions, and a targeted mask or light peel depending on how reactive your skin is that day. Top it all off with hydration and SPF. You’ll leave feeling noticeably cleaner, less inflamed, and far less oily.
The Lads Laser Acne Facial
For: Active acne, inflamed breakouts, scarring, and post-shave congestion
Time: 60 minutes
Cost: $349
This is a clinical-grade facial designed to treat the root of ongoing acne issues. It uses laser light therapy to kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation, followed by steam, extractions, and a light chemical peel to clear dead skin and help fade dark marks.
It’s ideal if you’ve been dealing with acne for a while and haven’t seen results with basic treatments. Skin may look a little red afterward, but that’s part of the process and means that it’s working. Results build with each session.
The Lads Plasmatic Facial (DMK Enzyme Therapy)
For: Aging, dullness, long-term damage, poor skin function
Time: 90 minutes
Cost: $350
This is skin revision—not your typical “relax and glow” facial. It’s powered by DMK’s enzyme therapy, a hard-setting mask that stimulates your skin’s own biology. The mask sets firmly on your face and neck, triggering your capillaries to dilate and push fresh oxygen and nutrients through your skin.
It’s ideal for men dealing with aging skin, and long-term inflammation. And despite how intense it feels while tightening on your skin, there’s no peeling or redness after. You’ll notice an instant boost in brightness and hydration.

The Lads Dermaplane Facial
For: Dull tone, dry patches, uneven texture, peach fuzz
Time: 30 minutes
Cost: $120
Who knew men can benefit from dermaplaning too? Using a sterile surgical blade, we gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells and fine hair (the peach fuzz outside your shaving area). The process is painless, but incredibly effective—your skin immediately feels smoother and looks clearer.
Why it works: dead skin and hair create texture, block pores, and cause light to scatter unevenly. Once removed, your skin reflects better, looks brighter, and allows for closer shaves and better product absorption.
Great before a photo shoot, an event, or anytime your face feels rough, dull, or dry. Especially effective if you’re clean-shaven—but still works beautifully around beard zones.
Men’s Facials FAQs
Should I shave before a facial?
If you usually shave, doing it the night before helps us treat more of your skin—especially around the jawline. But if you’ve got a beard, no stress. We’ll work around it.
Will I be red after?
Some facials leave your skin looking fresh right away. Others—like laser or peels—can cause some redness for a day or two. If there’s any downtime, we’ll tell you before we get started.
How long does it take?
We’ve got facials that run anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. We’ll let you know how long you’ll be in the chair the moment you make a booking.
What’s the price?
Our facials range from $120 to $350, depending on what your skin needs. We’ll talk you through it before we start so there are no surprises.
Will I break out after?
Not usually. And if you do, it’s minor and clears up fast. Sometimes your skin just needs to purge what’s been stuck underneath.
Does it help with blackheads and pores?
Big time. If your skin’s feeling rough or congested, a facial is the fastest way to clear it out. You’ll see a difference—especially around your nose and T-zone.
Can I go to the gym after?
Best to wait a few hours. Your skin’s been worked on and needs time to settle. Hit your workout later, not right after.
How often should I come in?
Most guys do well with a facial every 4 to 6 weeks. If we’re treating something specific, we might recommend a few sessions closer together. You don’t have to figure it out—we’ll guide you.
Why More Men Are Coming Back to Facials
A lot of guys show up thinking a facial is just a one-off. Something their partner booked. Something they’ll try once.
What keeps them coming back? The results. Skin that looks better, feels better, and actually holds up between visits. And yeah—having one of the most relaxing hours of your month definitely helps.
At The Lads Room, that’s the goal: fix what’s underneath, stop breakouts before they start, and turn your facial into something you actually look forward to.
